WHAT: The Hounds and their pet NPCs of the moment take a submarine up from the first of many sealed Avernian Gates
WHERE: Somewhere in the ocean, off the coasts of South America
WHEN: September 19, 2063 (7:00 PM to about 10:00 PM)
SAFE FOR WORK? Other than Drake's potty mouth? Probably.
OTHER NOTES: None!


[This submarine is typical Vice Military Solutions fare - that is, it's definitely more impressive than anything that the World of Light has to offer, but it's pretty average for any Keeper of the Vigil whose used to what Vice Enterprises has to offer with regard to transport.

You're all getting your own rooms to rest up in, and you have free reign of the ship right down to the bridge. You may want to lounge around in the large common area for crew and guests alike: it's got an impressive bar, and the cafeteria kitchen has been opened for your convenience.]

[ He doesn't find it bothersome or creepy in the least.

What he will do, though, is occasionally look over at you with a questioning look, as if to ask if anything is wrong or if there is anything you need.

A few minutes later though, he's asking softly: ] Do the gates look as creepy as that last one?

No. They're usually just long, creepy descents into the upper levels of the Underworld.

[Blinking up at.]

I'm going to check the post-engagement report on that one. I was picking up some pretty strange signals from it.

[ Huh. That's... reassuring.

He's pulling up an extra seat now so that he can sit right across from you. ]

Strange... how?

It was like I was looking a rip, or an entrance to the Other World or the Borderlines. The energy was Stygian, but everything else...

[Everything else felt wrong.]

Anyway, it's a good thing that Drake was able to seal it.

[larue]

[ Josh is giving you a look at that -- one borne of curiosity. ]

What would have happened if he hadn't?

[ Been able to close it, that is. ]

It likely would have become a rip into the Other World, or it would have collapsed and created an Anomaly.

[Which is a pretty big deal.]

That wouldn't have happened, though. If he hadn't sealed it, I would have.

[larue]

[ Ah. That... would have been pretty bad. ]

Do you think the other gates will be like that?

[ A beat, then: ] The ones that opened. The ones you said weren't supposed to be in this area.

They probably will be.

[Tilting head at.]

Don't worry about it too much, though.

[They were around, and there were other good operatives in the area who could handle the Gates.]

[ It actually isn't that he's worried... more curious.

He's nodding mutely at your response though and sliding his gaze away.

You're mostly dry now, as far as he can tell. He should probably release you since he'd interrupted you while you were doing your rounds. ]

[Noting that, and then reaching out to wrap his hands around your wrists as he's smiling up at you.]

Join me for a bit?

[The rounds can wait.]

[ The tension he hadn't realized had gathered along the line of his shoulders disperses as soon as you ask him to stay. ]

I've got nothing better to do. [ Saying that casually and with a quiet smile as he moves his wrists from your grip and replaces them with the way his fingers tangle with yours. He'll need to check in with everyone else later, maybe speak a little with Father Badd about that ceremony back there -- but all that can wait. ]

So I'm just "nothing better" now, is it?

[Teasingly, right before he's nipping a bit at your fingers.]

[larue]

[ He's about to protest when that teasing note in your voice makes it click.

Walked right into that one, LaRue. ]

That's one way of turning that phrase to your benefit.

[ He'll catch your chin and tip your face up so that he can kiss you -- it's not like anyone is around to tease the two of you anyway. ]

[Letting that kiss go on for a bit before breaking away, with another one of his smiles. Then he's going for his cigarettes.]

I'm just glad that none of you guys got hurt down there.

[larue]

[ He'll chuckle softly. Because that was some pretty creepy shit down there. ]

Well, we had pretty solid company along for the trip.

[ A smile, a shrug. ] Father Badd was pretty impressive.

[ Not to say that you weren't -- but the Underworld is kind of... yours. ]

He's a great guy when he's sober and he's focused on what he needs to do.

[Qualifiers. Your boyfriend is fond of them.]

[ You'll get a quiet nod from this one at that, before he goes back to taking both of your hands in each of his and turning them over so he can run his thumbs over either palm.

He's looking thoughtful as well. He's learning, once again, that he has a long way to go. ]

[And the only reason why he pulls away is so that he can take another drag form his cigarette.

Tilting his head now, and peering at you.]

What's up?

[He can guess, and probably quite accurately, but he knows you. Some things, you need to say for yourself.]

Nothing just... [ that's a shrug as he pokes the tip of his tongue on the inside of his cheek thoughtfully. ]

Just wondering about stuff.

[ 'Stuff' being a vague, catch-all term for Things He Needs to Read Up On. ]

Today wasn't my first time seeing an actual Avernian Gate, but... I guess I realized I know so little about them beyond the stuff that I've read.

There isn't much to say about them, really. It's what they lead to that's a bit of a big unknown.

[Leaning back, looking pensive.]

I didn't know all that much myself. Not until I... you know.

[Became one with Death, yadda yadda yadda.]

[ Ah. Of course. ]

I guess it's just... [ shrug ] y-you know how I get.

About well... getting as much information as I can about things.

[ He's leaning forward and setting a hand on your knee at that. ]

I know. It's one of the things that I like best about you.

[He's exactly the same way. You'd know this by now.]

Remind me to give you access to my library sometime.

[ He's going to blink up at you in surprise at that... and then offer a shy smile that may look a bit out of place. He didn't expect you to offer. It hadn't even crossed his mind. ]

I'd like that. [ That's coming out rather quiet. ]

[Peering at you for a moment, and then leaning in to bridge the distance between the two of you, and solve that little issue of your mouth not being on his. The kiss is meant to offer nothing but simple affection, and you're more than welcome to take it or leave it.

He loves you, okay? This is kind of what he does for people he loves.]

[larue]

[ He takes it, and gratefully, angling his head so that his mouth fits comfortably over yours. One hand has come up to cup your cheek and the hand he's still got on your knee tightens just a fraction.

He'll let that kiss go on for a bit ( because it's just the two of you here, because this steadies him in ways that he can't quite put into words ) before he breaks off gently, eyes closing as he rests his brow against yours.

No words, just content silence as he lets himself breathe. ]
