If Alistair Mordechai has his Reservoir Dogs, Maes has always had Elaine's Grace - although that obviously wasn't the blade's name since its beginnings, given how supreme sovereignty over the Fifth World has changed hands thrice. Hunters of Elaine's Grace, however, have always exclusively been members of the Brotherhood in Violence as much as Maes can manage to make them.
Each Hunter of Elaine's Grace has always been the chosen wielder of one of the God Weapons in the Brotherhood's possession (weapons, we note, that Maes stole from the Methuselah with Alistair's help). Keeping in tradition with Brotherhood's ways, there are never any more or less than seven members, and each one of them represents a virtue.
DOMINIC "DOM" LAUZIER Alias: Prudence, Chosen Samael's Song
BLADIAN OF THE BLOODY ROAD [BLOODSINGER: CAELIUS]; PRUDENCE, THE CHOSEN WIELDER OF SAMAEL’S SONG / GRAY BISHOP [BEAR] A fresh recruit to the Swiss Guard that Maes snatched away from the Vatican. The boy had reported hearing “strange whispers” beneath the Vatican. It was one thing to leave the Bladian to use his abilities (and, whenever possible, the abilities of his Singer) to guard the Pope. It was quite another to leave a Bladian chosen by Samael’s Song: that’s just a waste of good talent. Dominic (“Dom”, as his blade mates fondly call him) is the mother hen of Elaine’s Grace, and he cooks and bakes just as well as he eliminates his marks on engagement.
The original weapon of Lailah, one of the finest Vestalis in the Brotherhood of Violence's history. Godhands had recovered Lailah, a Jew, from certain death in Poveglia: city authorities had thought that the girl was insane and ridden with plague. In actuality, a Bloodsinger named Caelius had claimed her as his vessel in order to save her life. To show her gratefulness to her newfound family, Lailah swore to fight in the name of Yahweh for the rest of her days.
Personal accounts from Maes Mordechai and Lailah herself show that Lailah actually managed to convince Hikaru Shinta to mentor her both because of the potential she possessed and because her bloodsinger had once been one of Sumire’s dearest friends. Historians of the Order suspect that the bleed of emotion and memory between the pair was what caused Lailah to fall in love with Hikaru, but Hikaru – blinded as he was, at the time, by his grief over killing his wife Katherine – did not notice her at all. Nevertheless, she continued to devote each and every one of her fights to honoring his name, and honoring the connection they possessed through their Bloodsingers and through their “common cause” as warriors of Yahweh (Hikaru was, after all, a Brother in Violence). Unfortunately, this made her fail to realize the fact that her own Singer had forgotten his old attraction to Sumire, and was now in love with her.

Samael’s Song, the only weapon Lailah ever carried into the field beyond herself, seems to have absorbed her intent. Curiously enough, it also houses Caelius himself. The Bloodsinger, upon Lailah’s death, begged Maes to seal him within his lady’s sword, for he firmly believed that there could be no other host as perfect as she was for him.
Samael’s Song naturally gravitates towards potential wielders who have stories similar to Lailah’s, happen to be Bladians, or are devoted, above all, to being embodiments of God’s justice on the battlefield. It is effectively a Bloodsinger that does not levy any of the ill effects of having a near-demonic entity occupying one’s brain upon its current masters, and appears to get stronger with every creature it bloods or life it takes. Furthermore, it should be noted that Samael’s Song is one of the few Sacred Weapons that occasionally selects wielders that don’t even belong to the Brotherhood.
Dominic has firmly attached himself to Maes' side at the moment. Where the Godhand goes, he goes.
