Many within the World of Light of Waking the Dead wonder why Brent International School seems so insular. Its students are an interesting lot that truly keeps to themselves; its alumni rarely ever stay on Philippine soil, and most seem to disappear from the general public barely 2-3 years after graduating. Now, following the breaking of the Veil, people know the answer.
Brent International School is one of the Fifth World’s few “Hunter Academies” – that is, a school dedicated to raising and training Keepers of the Vigil, and facilitating the ease of transition into an awareness of the World of Darkness for their loved ones. On an interesting note, the concept of Hunter Academies was something that Riley Falner – the Daywalker – came up with. Brent is one of the few who has followed his specifications as strictly as they could.
MERCEDES CIELA Alias: Lady Ciela
???; Headmistress of Brent International School No one is quite sure who or what Mercedes is. This appears to be a mystery even for the strongest and oldest functional immortals of tonight’s Vigil and within the world beyond the Veil - and those who claim to know are either not telling, or foolish enough to brag about information that they couldn't possibly be privy to. People remember her from several historical events back, with the oldest recorded sighting dated during the Spanish regime. It doesn’t help, of course, that the Headmistress doesn’t seem to ever leave Brent, and also doesn’t look like she has aged at all. A few have pointed out that she bears a striking resemblance to the Guardian Spirit of the University de Santo Tomas. Records state that the entity was snuffed out during World War II.

Through the efforts of the United Vigil and the swift response of Brent's own faculty and students, the school was able to survive the first real siege attempt that was made against it. Lady Ciela has been spotted with increasing frequency around campus while she and the rest of the administration focus their efforts on repairing the school.

???; The Groundskeeper of Brent International School / Gray Piece, Coyote's Favor Always ready with a smile, a cuppa Joe and friendly chatter that seems tailor-fit to whoever approaches him, Derik runs Brent International School’s most hip hangout on campus. The Butt Can is an art café that turns into a bar after dark, as most Accorded Neutral Territories are wont to do in the Philippines. However, he's ALSO become the official Groundskeeper of the entirety of the school.
Because of the fact that he’s a more “recent” addition to the big names on campus and because of the time that he turned up (late in the year 2001), some suspect that he’s much more connected to the underlying politics and significant shifts in the Vigil than he lets on.

Jannik is one of those few, rare individuals outside of Aegis Kai Doru who specializes in Relics, Lost Legacies, and Fourth World history. He’s the author of many of Brent’s books on the matter.

Mage [Obrimos; Legacy: The Eleventh Question]; Senior Faculty, Computer Science & Engineering Department Blake’s story on how he ended up teaching at Brent is an interesting one. Originally a hacker from Europe, Blake broke through the school’s security systems and ended up stumbling upon the real Network Zero. Mercedes and other members of the faculty caught him, but instead of surrendering him to the authorities, they offered him a job – on the pretense, of course, that should he choose to cross the line again, he’s going to wind up in jail for good. One would think that Blake would chafe under these conditions. Truth be told, he’s having a lot more fun than even he thought he would.

She spent some time with the Philippine chapter of the Midnight Riders, and developed a reputation for herself as “the Finder”. Her abilities allowed her to recover pretty much anything for her surrogate family. She’s recently been dropped off at Brent to start a new life for herself, although she’s been very clear to whoever asks that she intends to join the Midnight Riders when she’s older – if Shane and Calintz will have her, at any rate.

Cassie's education and financial support is being funded by the Vice Conglomerate. Her legal guardian, however, is Mercedes Ciela herself. The Headmistress is the one who is, on paper, the guardian of any children who aren't otherwise claimed by a compact/conspiracy in the Vigil or an institution/institutional figure from beyond the Veil.
The reason why Cassie wants to join the Riders is because she was saved by one. She never did manage to get his name, though...
Like the rest of the students in her position (along with plenty of others who have been displaced by the breaking of the Veil), Cassie is still on campus even if school is out. The administration wants to keep them safe until they can figure out how to proceed.

As things stand, Cody’s still getting teased for his decision to wear a coyote-shaped pin, all because he’s a great admirer of Jessiah Vice’s work – what he knows about it, anyway.

Sent down on nominal probation by the Labyrinth in San Francisco after a training exercise went south, effectively bonding her to a strange pair of swords that only speak to her. The Relics in Akira’s possession seem to suck the life out of her, but also appear to be awakening her latent supernatural abilities. The faculty at Brent is still attempting to determine what’s going on, all in the interest of saving the girl’s life.

The Tendo Family is several centuries old, and have always produced monks, priestesses, philosophers, and otherwise esoteric individuals of repute. They are close associates of Zangyaku, but have always sworn allegiance to Orin the Green.
Akira is one of Clark's friends. People USED to think they were dating, but the two of them find that rumor disgusting. They view each other as family.
Now that Aegis Kai Doru is in the country, Akira is attempting to gain permission from Brent and from Vriska herself to do part-time work for the conspiracy. She was banking on the fact that proximity to her campus would make things easier (she was originally training with the operatives from the Labyrinth in Nara). It's not going so well.
Akira, like many other students of Brent, has been advised to remain on campus while the administration sorts things out. The world has, after all, turned upside down.

Rocio is one of the last remaining Jibito left in the world; the Riders took notice of him in Peru because of his “faith healing”. Rocio studies really hard because he wants to join the Order of the Mani dello Spirito Santo – and he was pretty specific about saying “Order of the Mani dello Spirito Santo”, not the Methuselah. In light of the rumors of Inquisitor-Pawn Oswald Lowe defecting to Netsach, the Daywalker’s conspiracy, he might just be able to fulfill his dream without having to stress over the demands that the Methuselah makes of its Hunters.

Wellsprings are powerful, human fonts of healing energy. They can, depending on their level of skill, heal physical wounds or wounds dealt directly upon the Pattern of a target.
Rocio is simultaneously popular and infamous at Brent depending on who you're asking. The teachers all adore him, half of the student body thinks he's really nice and love the fact that he takes care of everyone, and the other half of the student body think he's stuck up and preachy.
Because he's shown a great amount of aptitude for activating Benedictions, teachers who specialize in the holy teachings of the Brotherhood in Violence have taken to teaching Rocio some of the basics of invoking the compact's rituals.
Rocio, like many other students and faculty, has been requested to remain on campus while the administration sorts things out. Everything is a little crazy in the Fifth World right now.

Touched [Pariah]; Fourth Year Student, Class 4 A senior at Brent, and the youngest daughter of Sousuke Takeda, a Sworn Wolfheart whom many refer to as the “Mayor of Little Tokyo” because of the work he does for the conspiracy. Chizuru’s four older sisters are much older than her, and each one of them are successful in their own right. They are also all involved, in some capacity, with the World of Darkness. This might be why in spite of the fact that she is the only one among her siblings who managed to inherit the final techniques of the family dojo, she has no idea what she’s going to do with her life after graduation.

Pariahs are Touched whose Patterns passively convert physical or spiritual harm done upon their bodies or Patterns into misfortune. The greater the harm, the greater the rebound upon the party that was directly responsible for injuring the Pariah. The rebound, we note, takes place within the next 72 hours.
The final techniques of Chizuru's family are the ones possessed by THE Takeda. Yep. They're that distinguished around these parts, and in the World of Light.
Chizuru could easily stay with her parents, or seek refuge with any of the compacts or conspiracies that her sisters are a part of. She has, however, elected to stay on campus and help out where she can.
