Brought into the fold by the untimely death of their friend, the members of Bakunawa Operations lived most of their lives painfully oblivious to the truth because Diamond Dog sought to protect them. The time for that has long passed.
The members of Bakunawa Operations know where Diamond Dog's Private Investigations Office actually is, but they've deliberately chosen to not use it as their headquarters. They've named themselves such in honor of the fact that it was D who kept them together all these years, and it's D who watched over them until they decided, collectively, that they couldn't keep relying on someone else to put their necks on the line for their safety.

Joseph was planning on ending his story with Diamond Dog at "he just happened to be that forensics guy who helped Dante and Jerry out with taking down their commander". Truth be told, he and his family have been allies to the Wolf in the Philippines for a very long time. He used to be content with staying in the background and helping Estanislao Marisigan out with his so-called “real job” as a War Hound. And then his brother – one of the oni-tsukai who was slaughtered due to the Dovetailor’s influence – disappeared.
Now that there is nothing stopping Joseph from joining Zangyaku properly, the Deathspeaker is twiddling his thumbs and waiting on when the next initiation ceremony will be scheduled.

Joseph is currently the legal guardian of his brother's children.
Deathspeakers can perceive and communicate with the dead as though they were flesh and blood. They're completely immune to ghostly powers, but, in turn, they do not wield any supernatural ability to control ghosts.
