testdrive meme.
1. First Day At Falner
You have just arrived at Falner Estate, a sprawling, beautiful, 400-hectare co-located space between Britain, Germany, and the Philippines, and the main base of Netsach. The flora and fauna in the area gives both a sense of familiarity as it looks at first glance like things you’ll find on Earth, and a weird sense of otherworldliness. Given the size of the place, the Estate is less of a compound and more like a town unto itself. The older buildings within the estate are gothic in their construction, and clear throwbacks to 19th Century Europe. The newer facilities, however, sport cutting edge contemporary designs that were clearly inspired by Fourth World architecture and technology.
If you want a better idea on what can be found on the estate, you can refer to this link.
2. A Day On The Job
You are pushing papers at Methuselah, doing research at the Arcanum, or going out on patrol -- whatever it is that you're doing, it's just another day for you as a Hunter of the Vigil.
3. Let's Head Down to Haven
Find yourself itching for a night out on the town? Why not head over to Haven, the classy nightclub that looks like a large, monolithic black building with no visible windows from the outside and the name of the club emblazoned in bold, white letters on one side.
Haven is located in Makati City, and is open to the public (especially the local supernatural community), but you might want to prepare yourself to wait in line for a very, very long time – unless you’re a Hunter, of course.
Falner’s Maenad Division holds office on top of Haven, as does Ordo Daywalker. Some of Haven’s staff also live above the night club.
4. The Awakening
Want to tag out your character's origin story? Set the stage and let's see where things go.
5. Choose Your Own Adventure
If none of the suggested premises hit the mark, feel free to set things up and let's do a tag round.
Instructions for the Testdrive:
1. Specify your chosen scenario number on the subject line.
2. Should you wish to tag with a specific character already established within Waking the Dead, indicate who. The current list of available NPCs can be found over here.
I am so bad at rolls, this is gonna be a thing: 2 ; 8 ; 6 ; 6 ; 10 ; 7 ; 10
She actually looks around, because seriously, that was unexpected. "Yeah, well, next time I'll be the one to decide that."
And then she turns to Hikaru, looking positively embarrassed. "Don't tell me, I don't need to speak out loud, right?"
That is still three successes with two rerolls! That's a good roll. o3o
By the way. Hikaru's eyes? They have a soft, fiery glow right around the pupils right now.
(She is... what word would you usually use. 'Cute'?)
"Quite. Can't wait to tell Josh about this."
(Not Yulia?)
"She isn't going to take it well."
In the meantime, Sigma is answering Sophie back, like it did not matter whether she addressed him verbally or telepathically.
Very well, Sophie Morgenstern. I will follow your lead, to the best of my abilities.
And the creature actually sounds like he means it.
I have my moments :3
"Just Sophie. Look, you saved my life. Saved and/or doomed my life, I don't really know buy I see no point on blaming you. We both got our fair deal of crap to sort through."
All this focused thinking is going to give her a headache. It also makes her feel moderately dumb; now Sophie really wants to pick up a book. "I might be going insane, but let's try to make this work."
Momentarily distracted by Sigma (something that Sophie is pretty sure will become A Thing from now on), it takes Sophie a moment to realize there is something funny going on with Hikaru. "What's wrong with you eyes? Are mine also like that now?" Maybe your average teenager would be excited about the idea but Sophie isn't just in her mid twenties, but she really enjoys what little normalcy she still has. So no, not really sounding too excited.
XD
Hikaru, in the meantime is blinking. The smile he gives Sophie next is a bit on the sheepish side. The red rings are also gone.
"No, your eyes have absolutely nothing strange about them." He taps the side of his head with one finger. "I've got someone up in my attic too. He's not a Bloodsinger, though."
no subject
Sophie's mouth opens to fire the next question, but she doesn't make a sound. A moment later, she closes it shut and passes a hand over her face. "I could ask you thinks for the rest of the night and it wouldn't be enough." There is something oddly magnetic about him, but Sophie's stubbornness was probably outside the common mortal ranges well before she became a Bladian, so whatever urge to keep pressing the guy, she puts it aside for the time being.
"I am seeing you again." That's not really a question. "And we are gonna have a bunch of weird conversations. I can wait a little longer. You had a necklace for me?"
no subject
Hikaru is, of course, amused at the fact that it isn't a question. He also isn't bothered by it in the slightest.
"Yeah." He reaches down, and presses it into the center of her palm. "Wear that at all times... don't worry, it'll stop glowing permanently within the next three hours. It's also enchanted to return to you instantly, so you'll never actually lose it." Then he's gesturing towards the box. "That's got three sets of clothes, the keycard to the room that they have for you at the Guest House and a pamphlet on Falner. The Kaiser wanted me to tell you that you've got free reign of the place, and you can tap whoever you like for assistance."
After that, he's bringing out his phone.
"I've got your number already, so I'll text you later so that you can grab mine. Do you want me to drive you to the Guest House, or do you want to find your own way there?"
no subject
Sophie picks it up and puts it around her neck. She doesn't feel any different, but if it keeps her ridiculously murderous bad karma in line... She picks up the box without opening it. No need, really. "I'll try not to overuse the hot water." Maybe it's because she's so tired that she can allow herself a little humor now.
"I think...that I need to take a walk. Let this all sink in, I don't know. I promise not to run away?"
no subject
Hikaru fires off the text with a smile, and Sophie's phone goes off instantly. The message, once she opens it, only has this line:
You know who. :)
"Don't ever be afraid to message me or call me. I can say with confidence that I'll probably be able to respond no matter what time it is."
no subject
Sophie stands up, the sensation of being on her own two feet refreshing and appropriately grounding. She can do this. She, in a way, was born to do this.
"Very well. Don't get mad if I make other friends though, okay?" Rolling her shoulders, Sophie takes a deep breath. "Good night, Hikaru Shinta."
For reference! This Origins thread is worth 6 EXP total for you.
[And good night to you too, Sigma. I don't think I need to remind you that I'm watching over her now.]
{...I am aware, Blade King. Do not do me further disservice, though, by assuming that she does not matter to me.}
[Just trying to cover my bases.]
No, Sophie was not going to hear that exchange. It was, after all, a gentleman's conversation.
