The name is no coincidence: the Mary Magdalene on the Wiseman’s Committee is, indeed, the Mary Magdalene mentioned in the Bible. She’s one of the Originals of the Vampires in the Fifth World, spurned by Jesus Christ’s “betrayal of their love” (also known as, his decision to martyr himself for all supernatural kind instead of allowing her to Embrace him and save his life). The Wisemen – then under Aidan’s command – took advantage of the fact that Mary had been broken by her grief, and managed to convince her that the conspiracy needed creatures like her at the helm to forge a new world order. These are the beliefs that continue to carry Mary through tonight’s Vigil, aggravated all the more by her growing madness.
