THE BROTHERHOOD IN VIOLENCE, SOLDIERS OF GOD IN THE DARK
Through human history, religious fervor has determined the directions that the world ends up taking. Divine inspiration sparks human progress and sets fire to the soul just as often as it drives men to rise above the rest and commit acts of unspeakable horror. In light of this, it may not be too much of a stretch to say that Christianity – perhaps one of the most pervasive religious beliefs in the Fifth World – is responsible for all of that and then some. While most believers are harmless and much prefer to let bygones be bygones in order to assure their ability to worship their God in peace, there are always those strange (and sometimes noisy) few who – in the name of the Lord – will do interesting things.
The Brotherhood of Violence is, perhaps, the best example of pure, unapologetic religious zeal directed towards a singular target: threats to the Balance. Through a mix of grit, good fortune (or misfortune, depending on who you ask), focused homicidal tendencies and solid belief, this compact has grown from a cell somewhere in Ireland to a powerful Christian congregation within the Vigil. There’s a thin line between a zealot and a fanatic, and Brothers and Sisters in Violence are constantly walking it just in the same way that they constantly walk between the tenants of God (or, more accurately, the tenants of Her Church) and their solemn mandate as Hunters.
Operatives of the Brotherhood of Violence wear tailored, form-fitting habit underneath a long, high-collared coat with folded sleeves reminiscent of the uniforms of French or English soldiers in the 17th Century. Brothers in Violence wear black and crimson; Sisters in Violence wear dark violet and gold, and have a veil. Both kinds of uniforms have metal inlays and ornamentation. All members have chains around their waists, from which they hang their Cross.
The Brotherhood of Violence uses the base of the traditional Celtic Cross as their insignia. The inner circle of the cross, however, depicts a kingfisher whose length nearly encompasses the circle. The intricate designs show a network of rays of sunlight, vines, flowers, and blades; the rays and the blades are always directed outward, from the center. Furthermore, the bottom of their cross tapers downward, as though the base of the cross itself ended in the tip of a sword.

FOUNDER :: Maes Mordechai
Maes Mordechai is one of the two founders of the Brotherhood in Violence. He continues to lead them to this day. You can read up about him here, along with the other Malice Kings.
FOUNDER :: Alistair Mordechai
Alistair Mordechai is one of the two founders of the Brotherhood in Violence. He has retained his connections with the Brotherhood even if he's moved on to found Zangyaku with Hikaru Shinta, his King. You can read up about him here, along with the other Malice Kings.
ARIADNE MORDECHAI, Patron Saint of the Brotherhood
Alias: St. Ariadne, Good Woman of the Family
GREAT SPIRIT OF COMPASSION / PATRON SAINT OF THE FISHER-KINGS
Once viewed as the Judas of the Brotherhood in Violence, Ariadne Mordechai - Ariadne MacCnámh, anglicized as McNiven - was Maes Mordechai's second wife. She married him out of love. He married her out of necessity: he wanted to proliferate the Mordechai line by having children. Ariadne's sadness eventually turned to envy, which later poisoned her completely. She ended up betraying her husband and the rest of the Mordechai by killing both Mordechai brothers, killing Fianna, and sealing Hikaru’s fate in Arcadia during the Blade King’s 10th life cycle.
Ariadne's tormented existence did not end with her death. The curses levied upon her for her transgressions turned her into an Amrita. She wandered the Borderlines for centuries, lamenting her fate. The Secret War in Heaven, however, helped her find her way back to the Prime Material Plane and put her back in contact with Maes. In a rather emotional exchange, Maes ended up forgiving Ariadne for her sins. Ariadne promptly ascended as a spirit of compassion that made it her personal business to protect the Alder Tree, and watch over the Mordechai brothers during their future Pilgrimages.

FIANNA MORDECHAI, Patron Saint of the Brotherhood
Alias: St. Fianna, Good Woman of the Family; The Bloody Rose
GEIST OF A MOTHER WOLF'S VENGEANCE / PATRON SAINT OF THE FISHER-KINGS
The older one between the McNiven girls, and the first woman that Alistair Mordechai ever managed to fall in love with. Theirs was a far happier union compared to Maes and Ariadne's - something that managed to sustain them through their darkest years.
After three successful deliveries, Fianna’s last pregnancy was difficult. There were several instances within those nine months where Alistair was genuinely concerned about her survival, and the survival of their unborn child. The delivery itself, in fact, nearly killed Fianna – were it not for Setsuna’s intervention, the woman would have slipped away immediately after giving birth to Seth, their youngest son. The couples’ troubles, however, had barely begun. The violet eyes and strange appearance were a dead giveaway: Fianna was the latest woman to have given birth to the Blade King of the Fifth World. Aidan ordered Alistair to bring the boy back to the Methuselah so that he could be raised within their ranks. Alistair, in spite of his wife’s protests, agreed. He hoped that the Voidseeker would be compassionate. He lost all hope after the Methuselah used the soul cages the moment the boy woke up. His first attempt at fighting back ended when the Voidseeker threatened Fianna’s life.
After several cycles rife with the Methuselah's abuse, Fianna managed to convince Alistair to betray his conspiracy for the sake of their son. Things were as peaceful as they possibly could be up until Ariadne's betrayal. Fianna was killed in Arcadia while attempting to save her son from the Fae, and ended up coming back to the Fifth World centuries later as a geist. The Brotherhood recognizes her and acknowledges her "unfinished business": the all-consuming drive to protect her husbands, what they have built, and the Blade King at all cost. Many a Sin-Eater have broken under Fianna's influence.

THE BLACKGUARD OF THE WELL :: Robb Kearney
Alias: None
RIVERS HUNTER [CHANGELING LINE]; GODHAND, LEADER OF THE BLACKGUARD / GRAY KNIGHT [KINGFISHER]
One of Maes Mordechai’s direct descendants, made peculiar by the fact that he chose to continue the line of Ariadne, Maes’ once estranged wife. He calls both Alistair and Maes “uncle” and views them with no small amount of fondness because, in his words, they’re “crazy as shite” and never fail to make life interesting. The Black Cathedral is Robb’s home, and he’s rather set on protecting the place with his dying breath should it ever come to that.

THE VESTALIS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT :: Jocelyn "Josie" Ligaya

SIN-EATER [TORN REAPER; GEIST: HE WHO SEES]; GODHAND, WHITE LION OF ST. JOAN OF ARC / GRAY ROOK [KINGFISHER]
A phantom from the horrors of the Marcos regime given flesh, and potentially the worst nightmare of any corrupt motherfucker in the Philippines. Once upon a time she was a Journalism student from UP Diliman with a sense of justice with a girl who loved her very much. Now she’s Maes’ interrogation expert on call, out to replace every missing button on every one of her King’s coats. It should be telling that she spends more time as a dog than she does as a human being. Dogs, after all, are simpler creatures. The dark doesn’t rise in their brains nearly as quickly as it would in a man.

THE VESTALIS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT :: Simone Magdalena
Alias: None
MINSTREL; GODHAND, SHEPHARD OF ST. DAVID / GRAY KNIGHT [UNICORN]
One of the most zealous Sisters in Violence in recent history, and a trusted confidant of Maes Mordechai himself. Simone spends most of her time traveling the world, “fishing for men” as is her Devotion’s custom. She is also usually the first Godhand to respond when Maes needs something done and he can’t get away long enough to take it himself. Many of her brothers and sisters in the Brotherhood have noted, many times, that Simone does, indeed, “handle things” rather swiftly in Elaine’s name…
