There's a notable shift in her mood when he speaks Spanish. His smile helped enough before, but his Spanish puts her far more at ease. She didn't think she'd meet many people who could speak Spanish. Not that English was difficult for her. There were enough English-speaking people in Consuegra that she picked it up, but Barcelona had been the real test of English that had helped her hone it more. So many tourists and immigrants there, most natives spoke English first as well.
