One of the oddest members of the Wiseman’s Committee of tonight’s Vigil, all because he appears to be one of the only Wisemen with common sense. Maeniel stands out as one of the few Black Pieces on the Committee, often targeted by his colleagues for his “foolish” call for discernment. They say that the only reason why Maeniel hasn’t been removed from his position is because there is no real provision in the Methuselah’s Code that could justify people voting him out without ample proof, and Maeniel happens to have a stellar reputation as a Keeper, an Arbiter, and a Groundskeeper on his continent. His supporters, however, fear that it’s only a matter of time before his detractors latch on to a good excuse and disgrace Maeniel permanently.

Maeniel went back to Hope as soon as the dust from the Ides had settled. He's been holding the fort for the United Vigil in Africa ever since, but his time might just be running out.
At present, Maeniel is one of the "leaders" of a group calling themselves the Defiant within Aidan's new Methuselah. These Defiant are Wisemen who have chosen to follow the Dragon, and have been invited to serve as his counsel. There's no real word on whether they occupy any official position yet, but the Methuselah operatives who stand with the United Vigil view the Defiant as leaders of their contingent.
