testdrive meme.
1. First Day At Falner
You have just arrived at Falner Estate, a sprawling, beautiful, 400-hectare co-located space between Britain, Germany, and the Philippines, and the main base of Netsach. The flora and fauna in the area gives both a sense of familiarity as it looks at first glance like things you’ll find on Earth, and a weird sense of otherworldliness. Given the size of the place, the Estate is less of a compound and more like a town unto itself. The older buildings within the estate are gothic in their construction, and clear throwbacks to 19th Century Europe. The newer facilities, however, sport cutting edge contemporary designs that were clearly inspired by Fourth World architecture and technology.
If you want a better idea on what can be found on the estate, you can refer to this link.
2. A Day On The Job
You are pushing papers at Methuselah, doing research at the Arcanum, or going out on patrol -- whatever it is that you're doing, it's just another day for you as a Hunter of the Vigil.
3. Let's Head Down to Haven
Find yourself itching for a night out on the town? Why not head over to Haven, the classy nightclub that looks like a large, monolithic black building with no visible windows from the outside and the name of the club emblazoned in bold, white letters on one side.
Haven is located in Makati City, and is open to the public (especially the local supernatural community), but you might want to prepare yourself to wait in line for a very, very long time – unless you’re a Hunter, of course.
Falner’s Maenad Division holds office on top of Haven, as does Ordo Daywalker. Some of Haven’s staff also live above the night club.
4. The Awakening
Want to tag out your character's origin story? Set the stage and let's see where things go.
5. Choose Your Own Adventure
If none of the suggested premises hit the mark, feel free to set things up and let's do a tag round.
Instructions for the Testdrive:
1. Specify your chosen scenario number on the subject line.
2. Should you wish to tag with a specific character already established within Waking the Dead, indicate who. The current list of available NPCs can be found over here.
Gray Magallanes Valverde - Option 3 [OPEN]
Tonight, though, Gray is seated by the counter, drink in one hand and meal laid out beside him. He's listening attentively to the music playing throughout the club while his eyes glance around at several other customers. As expected, there were many regulars (a fair number of whom were hunters), but there were also plenty of new faces around tonight.
Overall, it was a rather interesting - albeit uneventful - night, and it doesn't look like he was going to mingle anytime soon unless someone approaches him (and the little green dragon curled up at the next seat, wide awake and watching the rest of the club as well).

Unfortunately, that thought is also writing itself all over her face, making her look at least half her age and way too wide-eyed for her own good. Thankfully, while Haven might LOOK like a club straight out of a TV show, it isn't. Hence, she isn't getting too many funny looks (or judgmental ones, for that matter) for the fact that she's definitely not dressed like she's out for a night of partying. One might even go so far as to say that she looks like she's about to pick up a shotgun, climb into a truck and head up to the mountains for some hiking.
After a good, solid ten minutes of wandering around and gawking at nearly everything she sees, Segan plopped down on a table close to the young man with a dragon (Wow, I've never see one of those up close...), taking one last look at her surroundings, and then pulling her phone out of her arm.
That's right. Out of her arm.
It's one of the things she likes about being a Technomancer. All the utility, none of the ridiculously big bags and pockets.
no subject
Definitely someone new, he surmised as he took a sip from his drink.
When she reaches for her phone from her arm of all places, though, both of his eyebrows shot up, and turned in his seat to better face her.
"Pretty neat trick you got there". he says in a mildly interested tone, just as Temo rears up his head to regard the current focus of his partner's curiosity.
Roll Perception (Wits + Composure)! Put the full results of the roll + tally of successes up here!
"Oh, uh..." And now, a hesitant smile. "Thanks. Was I... not supposed to do that?"
Lots of Netsach Hunters frequent Haven by merit of its proximity to Falner, and she's heard from her classmates that the Dragon's Wings never really rest. That's supposed to include the policing and regulation of the use of supernatural abilities, wasn't it?
Wits 3 + Comp. 3 (w/ Trained Observer): 7, 9, 10 (4), 2, 3, 3 [Rote: 4, 9, 8, 8, 2] = 5 Successes
Gray takes another sip from his drink before continuing. "Then again, it's kind of hard not to notice someone who gets spooked, and still catches her phone like it's nothing".
That impressed him, and he was certain that she didn't even realize that her phone had been about to fall in the first place. She had the kind of ingrained reflexes that you'd expect to see from either military personnel or Keepers of the Vigil, both groups he was very familiar with for obvious reasons.
The girl doesn't appear to fit in either category, though, and it only makes him even more curious as he asks this. "Are you studying at Balamb, Miss?"
\o/
"Yeah, I'm going to start soon." The smile relaxes a little now. She doesn't really know how to respond to his initial comment, so... "My name is Segan Brooke, sir. I'm a Technomancer."
Rank matters in Netsach, does it not? And Segan's always been one to respect strength and good manners regardless of what age the other party happens to be.
no subject
"Nice to meet you, Miss Brooke", he says, before taking one of the unoccupied seats as and introducing himself with a slight bow. "I'm Gregorio Magallanes, though feel free to call me Gray if you're alright with nicknames".
At the same time, Temo had propped himself up on another empty seat, giving the young girl a very inquisitive look as he spoke up. "Aren't you going to introduce me to her, amigo?"
"I was getting to that" he replies pointedly, before facing Segan again. "This is Temeraire, my guardian dragon in my life as a Mage".
no subject
This is kind of really cool.
"It's nice to meet you both! I'm not really great company, though, so... thanks for joining me?"
She's saying that as she tucks her hair behind her ear. A bit of a nervous tick, that.
no subject
Before he could ask something else, Temo beat him to it with not one, but several questions given in a rapid-fire manner. "So, Segan! You've been here in the Philippines for long? Where are you from, by the way? America? Canada? What's it like at your hometown? And how long have you been a Technomancer?"
Gray promptly gave the dragon a hard look to keep him from asking any more, then gave Segan a smile more sheepish than the first. "Sorry about that. He can get a bit excited when it comes to knowing new people. You got all that, though?"
no subject
"It's okay. I got it." Then, after she's turned to address Temeraire.
"How about I answer you one question at a time, and we'll work things out from there?"
Since answers tend to breed more questions, especially when an excitable dragon is involved. She had a classmate with a dragon just like Temo.
no subject
"Fire away, then", Temo says. "Gray and I are all ears".
no subject
Segan takes a sip of her drink after that answer.
"I came in from Alberta, Canada. I was transferred from a Hunter Academy in my home province to Balamb for the Accelerated Special Cases Program."
Going to assume he knows a bit of what happened at Big Rock, but not all the details
And it's only after he says this that he recalls something that he overheard at the Great Hall. "Wait, you came from a Hunter Academy in Alberta. Big Rock, right?".
Sure, sure.
"Yeah..." Trying for a smile again, although this time she's looking down at her hands. "Yeah, I do. I guess word travels fast for the Balamb crowd."
Which shouldn't be too surprising. Big Rock might not have been the best Academy around even before what Segan is now calling 'the Incident', but it was the most convenient location for Netsach operatives and other conspiracies to pull on potential initiates from the People, and from Native American tribes with long lineages of Touched. And now they're getting shut down.
no subject
"You don't have to talk about it, if you don't want to", Gray assures her. But he was definitely going to look up what happened at a more convenient time. "It must have been pretty bad down there if a Netsach Inquisitor had to go check it out".
Do you want to make this thread "canon" for the game now that we've started?
As things stood, Segan believed that - her own personal discomfort aside - it was important to spread the word. Big Rock wasn't an isolated case from what she had gathered.
"It could have been worse? I mean, I won't say that I wasn't the only one who suffered, but I was their prime target." She pauses there in order to get her cigarettes. "One of the instructors tried to molest me. When I reported it, he used his influence in the school to make my life really difficult since I refused to give in."
Yeah, Sure :)
"Que? He really did that?" and then he saw his dragon give a loud snort as he flapped his wings in agitation. "I can't believe it! The nerve of that guy! What the was that culero thinking that he could do that to you? And there were other people who were having similar problems there?"
"And how long did it go in your case?" Gray asks, the slight edge in his tone further hinting what he was thinking on the issue.
Great! Can we set it for the evening of June 11?
"Long enough to make me the only student in Big Rock's entire history to get set back a year." It takes a real act of will to not get angry about it, on Segan's end. "I was in my fifth year when Inquisitor Brea came around."
She pauses there, to light up her cigarette.
"Anyone who tried to help me, students or faculty, ended up suffering for it somehow. Eventually, people just stopped bothering."
Yep! That Works
No wonder Big Rock was such a big topic these days. Something like this should have been spotted a lot sooner and taken care of right away. He could only imagine just how outraged Inquisitor Brea had been when she was there.
"I hope your old instructor got what was coming for him... as did anyone who helped him screw you over".
Okay, yay!
Segan, however, felt that she did not really have to know unless people wanted to tell her. It did not matter now, especially since she was in a better place now and in the position to go back to reaching for her dream of becoming a part of Taskforce Valkyrie.
XD
"Si" Gray replies, taking a long sip from his drink to help him calm down. "And you're well on your way to becoming a hunter six months from now".
The smile returns, and soon turns into a faint grin that Temo promptly emulated.
"That said, I wish you the best, Miss Brooke. You're going to have a really good time studying at Balamb, even if you're an ASC student".
no subject
As things stood, Balamb already looked awesome on principle, just like the rest of the Falner Estate. Segan couldn't wait to tell her family about it when they called in next week.
no subject
Gray lets him continue with his questioning. A quick check of his phone showed that he still had time to hang around before he had to head home and get some rest for tomorrow.
Hence, he is quickly (but quietly) going through the last of his dinner, washing down the food with more sips of his iced tea as he listened.
[OOC: He's already had a couple of shots earlier, and he's not planning on having more if he wants to wake up fit for patrol xD]

What was there to say about Redtree, really? She loved the place, and for a long time, it had been the expansion of her world. Things were different now, though.
"Redtree's tiny, as in, so tiny that you could pass by every building in it in under an hour, and we only had one stoplight."
no subject
Hearing the name 'Redtree', though, made Gray blink once. It seemed to ring a bell in his head. And so, he's glancing again at Segan as he tries to recall any time that a town called Redtree had ever been mentioned.

Do I have to roll the spell (Temporal Eddies) on my next reply? Or do I just story it?
Why do you want to cast Temporal Eddies? o_o
Nevermind. I was overthinking on that. x.x /fail (But yeah, I think we're close to wrapping it up)
